Family-friendly activities and shared experiences in Shanghai, including parks, attractions, and ideas suitable for all ages.

Sharing Shanghai with all ages

Shanghai has more to offer families than most people expect. The obvious starting point is Shanghai Disneyland, one of the most visited attractions in Asia — our guide covers practical planning tips and how real families have made the most of their visit on any budget. For something more local, Qibao waterfront and the Gubei area offer a relaxed pace and a very different side of city life.

If you prefer open air, Shanghai's parks and green spaces are more varied than you might think, and the botanical gardens are worth a half-day trip. Along the waterfront, the Bund is one of the great free experiences in Shanghai — best visited in the early morning or at dusk to avoid the midday crowds.

For a slightly longer day out, the Hangzhou day trip is one of the most popular escapes from the city, with West Lake offering a calmer, more scenic contrast to Shanghai's urban energy. The city also has a growing café scene perfect for slower mornings, and its street art districts make for an engaging afternoon walk with older kids.
